Mulade Writes 7-Point Agenda to Gov. Oborevwori of Delta State

Mulade Writes 7-Point Agenda to Gov. Oborevwori of Delta State

2024: DELTA ACTIVIST,  COMRADE (CHIEF) SHERIFF MULADE SENDS 7-POINT AGENDA TO GOVERNOR SHERIFF OBOREVWORI

A renowned Delta State- born human rights, and development advocate, Comrade (Chief) Sheriff Mulade,  has wished all Deltans,  and Nigerians the best of life on earth  in the New Year, 2024.

Comrade Mulade, who is also the National Coordinator of the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ, said: "A lot happened in 2023, a year that witnessed vigorous political campaigns and general elections; the birth of new governments at the Federal and State levels; withdrawal of petrol subsidy leading to hyper inflation because of hike in transport fares, amongst others."

" And sadly, the recent and unfortunate massacre of hundreds of innocent Nigerians in parts of the country by terrorists, which further exacerbated the Nation's security challenges."

Chief Mulade, the Ibe-Serimowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, said: "Those who made it to the new year have cause to celebrate as life is for the living."

His words: " However, it is not yet Uhuru, as the economy is yet to recover from the subsidy shocks that have caused severe hardships for many families, worsening the prevailing rate of unemployment in the country, and forcing Nigerians to flee overseas, in addition to the abysmally poor performance of the Naira at the foreign exchange market."

Commending the former Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Francis Sheriff Oborevwori on his election victory,  emergence as the new Governor of Delta State, and leadership style, the Ijaw- born human rights advocate said the governor " has been working assiduously to unite Deltans, as well as ushering in a new phase of development to Delta State."

He presented the following 7-point agenda to the Governor:
1) Governor Sheriff Oborevwori should run an all-inclusive government, carrying all Deltans along, irrespective of political, religious or ethnic affiliations, as Delta State is for us all. To further unite the State, all hands must be on deck, while equal opportunities should be given to all Deltans to contribute their quota towards moving the State forward and be wary of political sycophancy.

2) The Delta State 2024 Budget should provide for the neglected riverine areas of the State, particularly the Ijaw and Itsekiri areas, where about 80% of the State's resources to fund the 2024 budget will come from. This is due to the fact that for decades now, the people of the coastal areas of Delta State have been grossly neglected in terms of tangible infrastructural projects that are economically viable for sustainable development of the riverine areas.

If these neglected areas were not adequately captured in the already passed 2024 Budget, a supplementary budget that will accommodate and give sense of belonging to the riverine areas is recommended.

3) Delta State must be on the map of progressive States. It is very heartwarming that for the first time, Delta State Government has kicked against shoddy projects, and that it will no longer be business as usual for quack contractors, as demonstrated by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who engaged the bridge and road construction giant, Julius Berger Plc, a proof that the current administration is serious about leaving a lasting legacy as far as infrastructural development is concerned.

This is commendable, but the Governor should sustain the tempo and diversify the transport sector; attract foreign investors to the State; and set up a strong security architecture.

4) Governor Oborevwori should embrace environmental sustainability and best practices for the preservation of our ecological heritage. The Delta State Government should liaise with the Federal Government and its agencies to put an end to gas flaring, create opportunities that will discourage pollution, and encourage good sanitation habits.

5) The Delta State Government should focus more on education which is the bedrock of development in every progressive society. Quality education should be provided in all parts of the State, particularly in the riverine areas,  where there are paucity of teachers, and learning facilities are dilapidated.

Quality education should be seen by government as an investment in citizens with the aim of reaping citizens' positive contributions to development in the future, after being trained and certified.

Efforts should be made to reduce the number of out-of-school children to the barest minimum, while learning institutions must be strengthened to enable them make positive impacts.

6. The Governor should focus on agricultural development in the State. In fact, the government should engage and empower the jobless youths and women so that they can contribute to food production.

Government should establish agricultural schemes with palliatives to lure and encourage Deltans to go into crop farming and fishing. Delta State should not only be exporting crude oil but also be food sufficient with the surplus exported to neighbouring States and other countries.

Agriculture is very important as fossil fuel can no longer be relied upon as revenue base for future development. The future belongs to agriculture which has comparative advantages over crude oil.

7. Security should be prioritized by the Oborevwori administration to guarantee peace, attract investors into the State, and create job and employment opportunities for Deltans and other Nigerians in the State.

Security is everybody's business, but the State Government must put in place the needed security facilities, and collaborate with the Federal Government's security agencies to curb criminal activities in the State to further boost confidence, and attract local, national and foreign investors.
Comrade Mulade, however, urged all residents of Delta State to "give maximum cooperation and support to the current Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to enable him implement and achieve his MORE Agenda for the benefit of all Deltans."

While wishing Deltans a very prosperous and peaceful 2024, Chief Mulade said, "I believe that this 7-point agenda will help to boost the economy of Delta State, and will, no doubt, place the State on the world map as an investment destination."

The families expressed sadness and shock over the "sudden" and "untimely" death of their son who was gruesomely murdered in cold blood on the alleged order of the paramount ruler of Seimbiri Kingdom and the Executive Chairman of Okpokunou Urban Community.

The families said the suspects poured Premium Motor Spirit also known as petrol on their sin, tied his hands and legs together and started beat him
with all kinds of offensive weapons such as sticks, machete etc.
They said he died as a result of high degree of injury inflicted on him by the suspects.

The families said the incident threw the whole community into grief.

They said the incident occurred 2nd May 2023.

Narrating how the incident occurred, the families said their son was accosted by Mr. Tokekeme Egbouke(Community Chairman), Mr. Wilson Chamber(Vice Chairman), Mr. Prestar Kodokor(Secretar), Mr. John Okorodas (Youth President), Mr. Secretary Amgbara(Chairman's Adviser), Mr. Apostle, Mr. Christian Ambai, Mr. Arekedoumene, Mr. Yenrin Complain, Mr. Prince Abrafa and Mr. Tenezibau Anthony on the allegations that he stole some community’s laboratory equipments.

According to the families,"But upon the deceased’s denial of the said allegation leveled against him, the said suspects constituted themselves into a court and
passed death sentence on the deceased for stealing the said property."

The families added that,"And after delivering their verdict, the 2nd suspect, Mr. Tokekeme ordered the other suspects as mentioned in this paragraph to
descend on the deceased by way of executing their judgment on the issue
of stealing as alleged.

"That after pouring Premium Motor Spirit also known as petrol on the
deceased, they tied his hands and legs together and started beating him
with all kinds of offensive weapons such as sticks, machete etc,of which
as a result of high degree of injury inflicted on him by them,he died

It said one of the suspects Mr. Tokekeme said to them that they killed and buried the deceased because he stole community's properties boasting that as the chairman, he has the right to do so and nobody can do him anything including the Police or the Government.

They added that the said Egbouke allegedly threatened to send his "boys"

dares him on the issue surrounding the circumstances of the death as the community chairman he has the full
backing and support of the 1st suspect to do what they did and that the 1st
suspect has assured them that he will use all his connection and contacts
in the government to ensure that the matter will not see the light of the
day.

The families said the suspect has been moving freely in the Community since their son was murdered.

The families said the actions of the suspect is already causing serious tension in the Community just as they warned that,"if nothing is done
urgently to arrest the situation,it may lead to break down of law and order."

"There is no doubt that the actions/inactions of the aforesaid suspects
amounted to jungle justice which is not accommodated in this twenty first
century.

"Life is so precious to both God and man and as such,no man is
permitted by any law(no matter how highly placed heis)to take the life of
another.  This is a crime against humanity and must not be treated with kid gloves."

The families said they're law abiding citizens of Nigeria and would not want to take laws into their hands.

They said they resolved to seek the urgent attention of the Commissioner of Police,CP Wale Abass in the matter.

They implored CP Abass to use his good office to take decisive action in the matter and direct/order the arrest of the suspects so that they face the wrath of the law as the Public and
Okpokunou Urban Community citizenry particularly the Youths are also watching
eagerly because of the intrigues that has come into the matter.

However, the police public relations officer DSP. Bright Edafe during a chat with this reporter confirmed that the police is conducting a thorough investigation into the murder case and urged the aggrieved parties to remain law abiding, saying that the perpetrators must be brought to book and be made to act as deterrent to others in the community.

New Year: Omatseye Host Family, Friends, Well Wishers in Warri

New Year: Omatseye Host Family, Friends, Well Wishers in Warri

By Francis Abai/Francis Tayor

Warri _____ It was a fanfare on Wednesday 27th December, 2023 as the former Delta South Senatorial candidate of the New Nigeria People's Party, NNPC in the 2023 general elections, Commodore Omatseye Nesima (Rtd) hosted family members, friends, political associates and well wishers at his private residence in GRA, Warri, Delta State.

The event was graced by the clergy, journalists, retired military personnel, comedians, children with Santaclus from Iceland to spice up the occasion.

The invited guests seated in a round-table setting at the private residence in Warri, Delta State, of a retired Naval officer, Commodore Omatseye Nesiama popularly known as 'The Commodore of Hope', were family members, friends and associates.
They had all been invited by The Commodore of Hope and his family in the spirit of the yuletide celebration and as part of the tradition of the Nesiama's in thanking the Almighty God for making it through the year, as revealed by The Commodore of Hope in his opening speech as the ceremony flagged-off few minutes to 6pm.
"Today is just for us to appreciate God and thank Him for the year. A lot of people know us. Normally, when we are in town we host. Last year we couldn't host because it was the heat of political activities. The last time we hosted here it was mainly family and friends. But this time, we said family, friends and political... not really associates—those guys that were in the trend with me throughout the electioneering period.

"My real family are the people you're seeing here now. And I want to thank you for being part of my family. I want to thank God for the privilege to be able to call this gathering on a very short notice and we are all here," he acknowledged.

Asides the need to thank God and to celebrate, Commodore Nesiama (rtd) who said that "The programme line up today is to eat and drink" also urged his guests to use the opportunity that the sit-out offers to network among themselves. "This is a gathering where you network. Don't just sit down, go round, greet and know people because the person you see here today might be important to your progress tomorrow," he further added.
The evening was marked with musical entertainment by the live band, Anointed Stone Superstar, and with comic relief from MC QP A.K.A Youngest Landlord in Warri, and MC Charles The Generous. There were varieties of foods such as rice, suya (roasted meat), wines, assorted drinks, roasted fish among others. Santa Claus (Father Christmas) was also on ground to swell the fun for kids in attendance too.

Commodore Nesiama (rtd), who gained political prominence at the last general elections wherein he campaigned vigorously in the Delta South Senatorial district on the platform of the New Nigeria People's Party, NNPP, stunned his guests when he opened the Karaoke session, which was part of the activities to liven the mood of guests.

The Commodore of Hope brought back the nostalgic feeling of the late 70's when he performed the song 'Coward of the County' by the late country music singer, Kenny Rogers (August 21, 1938 – March 20, 2020).
Other guests also joined the fray in the Karaoke session. Songs like 'Suddenly' by Billy Ocean, 'You're My Best Friend' by Don Williams among others, were performed by participating guests. While some sang to the admiration of guests, others were a bit muffled up as they try to follow the lead words displayed on the projected screen. Yet, there were still those who departed from the Karaoke by performing local songs of praise.

But most importantly, everyone met someone new, like Pastor Sunny Aghe who was excited to meet for the first time the radio show presenter, Laju Awala of Rize FM in Warri. Also among the Nesiama's were Rear Admiral Franklin Nesiama, Dcns Victoria Nesiama, Mrs. Queen Temile, and a host of others.

IPF urges Ijaw politicians to prioritise development of riverine communities

IPF urges Ijaw politicians to prioritise development of riverine communities

The Ijaw Publishers Forum has advised political office holders of Ijaw extraction to prioritise the development of Ijaw communities across the Niger Delta region.

The president of the media professionals, Comrade Ozobo Austin asserted this in Warri while receiving a protest from some youths over the collapsed Gbaregolor/Ogbeinama bridge, abandoned Bomadi/Ogulagha road, Ayakoromo Bridge and Ojobo/Torugbene road, Odimodi/Ogulagha road projects on Thursday.

He said despite the government at all levels failing to prioritise riverine communities' development, Ijaw political leaders had a role to play to attract government presence to the marginalised oil-producing and impacted Ijaw riverine communities in Niger Delta.
The media professionals had emphasised that they would strongly advocate for the Ijaw community's development following the unfortunate disrespect for the Ijaw Nation's development by successive governments at all levels over the years.

While promising the protesting Youths to convey their plights and demands to the Delta State governor, His Excellency RT. Hon. Elder Sheriff Francis O. Oborevwori, he called on Delta Ijaw leaders to influence the completion of the aforementioned projects by lobbying the state governor and other relevant authorities in the federation.
Ozobo who further stated that Ijaw development is Ijaw's responsibility, urged Ijaw political leaders to put more commitment to attracting meaningful development in their respective communities.
