On Queen Elizabeth's Funeral Service: Observations & lessons for Africa

On Queen Elizabeth's Funeral Service: Observations and lessons for Africa

The 'whole world' was present in the Queen's burial service. Significantly, all the world leaders, political and religious heads from all over the world and from all walks of life were seated accordingly before the service began.

I observed there was no poster of the deceased queen, no order of service except that provided by the church, no sackcloth by the family of the queen (at least to identify her immediate family) and no Ashoebi for Queen's family, well wishers and relatives.
The service was solemn and interestingly soul-mellowing. There was orderliness and organization. The military parade and match by the royal navy and others was nearly perfect and a top notch. They displayed expertise in the highest level.

Her children, grand and great grand children were all composed and comported, calmly sitted and flowing with the tempo of events. No stress on their faces as a result of running around for their mother's burial.

The singing of hymns, chanting of psalms and canticle were like voices of many waters. There was no shouting, no noise, no repetition of words like 'Praise God!' 'Hallelujah! Amen! Sons of the living God! Shout a big Hallelujah!
The homily which was delivered by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Most Rev'd and Rt. Hon Justin Welby did not last more than ten minutes. His opening prayer was less than ten seconds and he didn't even say closing prayer. In fact I didn't know he had finished preaching.

As a burial service that had many world leaders in attendance including muslims and other unbelievers, I expected a salvation message from the Archbishop so that those men will hear the true word of God for once. But no!

He didn't even make reference with emphasis to any scripture let alone calling for altar call for those who wanted to give their lives to Christ. I expected the preacher to tell us more about the dead queen, her life and times but he didn't do that.

No recognition of dignitaries in the service by the Archbishop of Canterbury. No special greetings whatsoever by the family of the bereaved. No collection of offering. No launching and fund raising in the burial service in support of the church. No announcement on where guests and visitors will be served food.

They knew why they gathered, did that exactly and dispersed. Altogether the service lasted an hour. No time for frivolities. Everything was well ordered and arranged. Her palace was not repainted to look new to the visitors. No gunshots were heard. No masquerade.

Lessons:

If as Africans we have nothing to learn from the queen's burial, we must learn simplicity and avoid unnecessary wastage of finance and time during burials. We must discourage extravagant display and waste of resources during burials.

The church has a vital role to play in reducing a lot of financial burdens placed on people who are bereaved of their loved ones. Insisting that the family of the deceased should pay a certain amount of money before burial is not in the best interest of the church.

If we don't redefine our concept of Christianity in Africa as simple, accommodating and devoid of ostentation we may continue to lose membership. We must leave Christianity as simple as it is meant to be where everyone is treated equally with love.

'Giving honour to whom honour is due' is good but it must not override our sense of duty and consciousness of time in a public worship. It must be closely watched to avoid eventual shift of our attention to human worship.

We must resist the temptation of raising money in church services when we see political money bags and dignitaries, more especially during burials and other services that are not originally intended for fund raising.

How Bayelsa Police Arrest Kidnap Kingpin Ewa ‘LYON’ In Abuja

How Bayelsa Police Arrest Kidnap Kingpin Ewa ‘LYON’ In Abuja

...... As kidnapper fingered for abducting former Bayelsa Governor’s sister

Yenagoa____ Operatives Puff Adder Bayelsa State Police Command have made a major break through in the fight against criminality in the State.

It was gathered that the police has arrested an ex-worker of a new generation bank identified as John Ewa, who is from Akwagom-Eruan community in Boki LGA of Cross River State he was instrumental to so many kidnap incidents in the town.

Investigations revealed that Ewa, an indigene of one of the South Eastern States changed his name from Ewa to Lyon and started operating as a top member of a kidnap syndicate in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
It was also gathered that his position as a staff of the new generation bank gave him access to privileged Informations on people which he supplied to his collaborators from the state to kidnap high profile victims.

A source who confided in our correspondent said that the bank which was wary of the suspicious activities of Ewa terminated his appointment and he went full blown into crimes and criminality

It was further gathered that the latest crime he and his kidnap gang committed before his arrested was the abduction of a bank manager, Danjuma, in Yenagoa.

Investigations revealed that the same John Ewa alias ‘Lyon’ played a central role in the abduction of the younger sister of a former Governor in Bayelsa State.

Intelligence sources said that he supplied information to the ‘bad guys’ who abducted the young lady from her shop in Yenagoa.

It was gathered that Ewa was instrumental to the disturbing abduction of many top Igbo businessmen in Yenagoa, some of who relocated from the state.

The police have also picked up one Emma Angasei alias Senior Emma from Azuzama community in Southern Ijaw local government area of Bayelsa State who is also a member of the kidnap gang.

According to our investigation, the said Emma had been in detention for more than three weeks.

The source said that the operatives are still going after a top member of the gang who is on the run.

“Ewa, now in custody, was arrested by operatives of Puff Adder of Bayelsa State Command in Abuja.

“He was a staff of one of the new generation banks. The guy knows the bank’s operation very well.

“He was sacked due to his activities and he went ahead to arrange jobs for the bad boys.

John Ewa is his real name he is from Akwagom-Eruan community in Boki LGA of Cross River State. He stated answering John Lyon when he came to Bayelsa state.

“Investigations have confirmed that he actually supplied information on the younger sister of a former Governor of Bayelsa State who was abducted.” A top security source said

Ewa was seen dancing and displaying $100 dollar notes in a video where he was saying ‘to get money for this life, hustle, hustle.”

In another video, Ewa in handcuffs confessed that he had only taken part in two kidnap operations.

He repeatedly begged the police operatives and a victim who said he round testify against him in court.

He said that he was not involved in the kidnap of the Kogi born bank manager, identified as Danjuma.

He said, “They always call the guy for job. The guy’s name is Millow. Sir thanks please forgive me. Forgive me. I was not involved in your matter.”

But one of the victims of his criminal activities identified him as one of the persons who was seated in a chair while they were brutalizing him.

From the interrogation, Ewa was said to have gone to the bank to pretend as if he was a client trying to open accounts for his children when he was actually monitoring the activities of the bank manager to kidnap him.

Our correspondent couldn’t get the Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, Asinim Butswat to comment on the story as the calls to his phone number could not connect.

How the Bini's in Edo Established ltsekiri Kingdom in Warri, in the 15th Century in Delta State

How the Bini's in Edo Established ltsekiri Kingdom in Warri, in the 15th Century in Delta State

ln the 15th century, the early Itsekiris adopted a prince Ginuwa (also called "Iginuwa" in Bini Language) from the Kingdom of Benin as a monarch, and quickly coalesced into a kingdom under his rule. Traditionally fishermen and traders, the Itsekiri were among the first in the region to make contact with Portuguese traders. These interactions in the 16th century led the Itsekiri to become primarily Roman Catholic.

The Itsekiri monarchy has continued to the present day, with the coronation of Ogiame Ikenwoli on 12 December in 2015. The Itsekiri's historical capital is Ode-Itsekiri (also called "big warri" or "Ale iwerre"), though the monarch's main palace is in Warri town the largest city in the area and home to diverse other communities including the Urhobos, Ijaws, Isoko, and many other Nigerian and expatriate groups working in the oil and gas industry.
The Itsekiri, though a minority group within Nigeria, are considered to be a highly educated[citation needed] and affluent ethnic group[citation needed] with a very high rate of literacy and a rich cultural heritage. The Itsekiris have one of the oldest histories of western education in West Africa, and are noted for producing one of its earliest university graduates – the Olu of Warri Kingdom, Olu Atuwatse I, Dom Domingo a 17th-century graduate of Coimbra University in Portugal. Today, many Itsekiris can be found working in the professions[citation needed] particularly medicine, law and the academic professions and in business,[citation needed] trade[citation needed] and industry[citation needed] and were among the pioneers that led the development of the professions in Nigeria during the early-to-mid 20th century .[citation needed]

The Itsekiris traditionally lived in a society that was governed by a monarchy (the Olu) and council of chiefs who form the nobility or aristocracy. Itsekiri society itself was organised along the lines of an upper class made up of the royal family and the aristocracy – the 'Oloyes and Olareajas' these were mainly drawn from noble houses including the Royal Houses and the Houses of Olgbotsere (Prime Minister or king maker) and Iyatsere (defence minister). The middle class or Omajaja were free-born Itsekiris or burghers. As a result of the institution of slavery and the slave trade there was a third class 'Oton-Eru' or those descended from the slave class whose ancestors had come from elsewhere and settled in Itsekiriland as indentured or slave labourers. In modern-day Itsekiri society the slave class no longer exists as all are considered free-born.
Traditionally, Itsekiri men wear a long sleeved shirt called a Kemeje, tie a George wrapper around their waist and wear a hat with a feather stuck to it. The women wear a blouse and also tie a George wrapper around their waist. They wear colourful head gears known as Nes (scarf) or coral beads. Itsekiris are also famed for their traditional fishing skills, melodious songs, gracefully fluid traditional dances and colourful
 masquerades and boat regattas.

RELIGION:

Before the introduction of Christianity in the 16th century,[9] like many other African groups, the Itsekiris largely followed a traditional form of religion known as Ebura-tsitse (based on ancestral worship) which has become embedded in modern-day traditional Itsekiri culture. Once the dominant form of western Christianity in Itsekiriland for centuries.

Expectations have a life-span tied to humans. Expectations only die when humans die and migrate to  another space for existential life-continuation though existentially banned on planet earth. Expectations always stage multiple dances as are humans who vary in their numbers and kinds – white, black, etc. Against this backdrop expectations are often built around people of intimidating statures.

Because expectations have a life-span inextricably linked to humans, many expectations are built around Hon. Forteta Peter Asupa and Hon. Julius Pondi. Sometimes these expectations – both healthy and unhealthy – dance full circle like a full moon and sometimes dance questionably away from full circle. For every circle danced out it goes with different perceptions and interpretations from the people from whom the expectations always emanate and for whom these expectations dance differently in circles. Full or half in the cyclical dance of expectations, expectations from Hon. Asupa and Hon. Pondi always grow like verdant vegetation. One of such expectations from these two personalities has just got broken and sailed into a fisticuff in a rural backwater some kilometres away from Warri.
Ideally, for Hon. Asupa and Hon. Pondi, one would have expected a rosy relation between the two because they are legislators from the same constituency in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State. The former is a legislator in the Delta State House of Assembly and the latter is a legislator in the House of Representatives. These different legislative positions should be the connecting rod and gum between the two but this is rather the originating base for their perpetually confrontational and antagonistic relation. At every turn they are antagonistic and confrontational towards each other and nobody knows when a thaw will creep into them and pour permanent water on their troubling, glaring, conflagration caused by endless political calculations and projections between the two.

Appallingly, the perpetual clash between the two which hitherto existed at the ideological level recently shifted and went physical. It all happened in Akparemogbene in Burutu Local Government Area where the two legislators muddied themselves in a public engagement that will never be forgotten by the people even long after the world must have ended in phased generational dimension. The Akparemogbene people saw the mind-boggling drama acted out by the two legislators and reluctantly separated the two combatants in a quotable public language of reprobation heaped at both whose gauged level of remorse remains doubtful up till now despite the seeming opprobrium the drama carries. To the Akparemogbene people it was a titanic battle between Asupa and Pondi though a clear winner of the titanic clash is yet to emerge.

Nobody knew Asupa and Pondi as great pugilists until the publicly staged drama in Akparemogbene. How the two legislators jogged, exercised, took quick short steps backward and forward and feinted to outwit each other was an unforgettable drama. Agile and pugilistic with accurate punches thrown at each other and sometimes skillfully parried by the other, Hon. Asupa and Hon. Pondi would knock out Mike Tyson in any boxing competition in a matter of seconds. Great boxers they are though they are accredited legislators with traceable marks in their legislative business!

Some dead years in the past Asupa and Pondi were appalled and agitated when they saw the development challenges and gashes suffered by Akparemogbene people. The buildings of Omotipere Primary School, Akparemogbene, had caved in long ago, cuckooed and rendezvoused by lizards and rabbits. For the pupils learning become endangered because they are cuckooed by reptiles of different kinds. So Hon. Pondi legislatively lubricated the path for a block of three classrooms   built by Ojidoe-linge Engineering Company Limited. Within the same period marked by measurable differences in months, Hon. Asupa legislatively facilitated the arrival of another block of three classrooms with an office annexe attached which was built by Eyarabia-Eve Enterprises with amazing competence. For both edifices consciously built to address the infrastructural problems of Omotimpere Primary School, Akparemogbene, it was clear great architects and engineers were engaged to do the jobs. For the two legislators they don’t want the two projects derisively hissed at by passers-by as sub-standard projects executed merely to bamboozle and captivate the fantasies of the people for the harvest of momentary commendation and so Ojidoe-linge Engineering Company  Limited and Eyarabia-Eve Enterprises have told an immortally striking  story in Akparemogbene in terms of the engineering and architectural designs and the very final aesthetically captivating and inviting 'finished product' as regards the two buildings in Omotimipere Primary School, Akparemogbene!

In the two projects in Akparemogbene legislatively lubricated by Hon. Asupa and Hon. Pondi, there was a traceable move to outdo the other in architectural and engineering designs. Both were conscious that they were at work in the public arena and so they deployed all their pugilistic skills and excellence to throw punches at each other to the captivation of the spectators. When the spectators saw that both Asupa and Pondi had exhausted all their pugilistic skills, the Akparemogbene people intervened as peacemakers and separated them at a time both legislators were gasping for breaths. By the time they were separated, Asupa and Pondi had developmentally immortalised their legislative performances in Akparemogbene through open pugilistic engagement of each other because individually they can both proudly tell the world they have transformed Omotimipere Primary School, Akparemogbene, in infrastructural capacitation and empowerment.

It is historically gratifying that Hon. Forteta Peter Asupa and Hon. Julius Pondi have become great developmental pugilists who know when to throw accurate punches at each other and create a new world of development and transformation for a people. For legislators like Asupa and Pondi who are skilled at telling their story of development for the people to listen to through constituency projects executed promptly according to specifications, they should be applauded endlessly.

Without  the fear of being misunderstood and misquoted for referentiality, Asupa and Pondi have historically become quotable developmental pugilists steeped or deep-rooted in public dramaturgy directed specifically towards the advantageous placement of Akparemogbene people; and for pugilists like Asupa and Pondi, there is need for them to clash always using their pugilistic skills because there is no opprobrium in two legislators developmentally engaged in pugilistic exercise when the product of their pugilistic engagement is that of transformation for the people, particularly the Akparemogbene community – a community where Hon. Asupa and Hon. Pondi recently clashed and showcased their pugilistic skills in developmental communication to the thunderous applause and approbation of the people.

Okowa's Govt, Deltans are living in abject Poverty_ Ezekiel

Okowa's Govt, Deltans are living in abject Poverty_ Ezekiel

....... As Ezekiel Kagbala writes Gov. Okowa to seek productive Economic policies

Delta Governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa's administration has always claimed that   alleviating the suffering of the less-privileged in the state has been it's priority taking cognisance of the need for direct economic policies and other laudable programmes.

However, some stakeholders have called on the governor to take a critical look at the socio-economic condition of the state and ensure a veritable means for economic revolution.

A record of daily activities amongst Deltans or the 'common man'  in Delta State paints the picture of anguish, despair, and disappointment with
uncountable Deltans especially those in coastal communities not finding life easy, as they struggle to survive with small scale traders not making sales as they used to as things has become messier for them.
Our Dear Governor's promise of  handing over an economically vibrant Delta State in 2023 is not unnoticeable as you created avenue to empower Deltans by putting food on their tables, because you feel it is truly very necessary as in today’s Nigeria.

Commendably, Okowa's appointees have food on their tables, contractors to the state government have food on their tables, friends and relatives of those in government have food on their tables, the politicians have food on their tables, and they could sit at luxury homes with inflow of cash within their circle and you expect them not to sing Okowa's praise to the highest heaven and do all sorts of political mobilizations.

The question is; what has our dear Governor done to ensure that he delivers governance that goes beyond putting food on the People's table? We tasked and urged our dear Governor to think in the direction of reviving the moribund industries within the shortest period as a lasting legacy for Deltans

Our advice to our dear  government is to think beyond throwing some money into Job creation office to carry out a stage-managed show in the name of skill acquisition or empowerment program that only serves as a means of getting something out of the system and unnecessary media hypes by wasting the state's money on a TV program; 'Smart Delta' even though Delta is not smart with Economic Development.

We urged our government to think of establishing production factories that could employ up to two thousand men and women in each region of the state. We plead and asked the state government to  stop wasting money on impotent, unproductive, and near moribund ministries and agencies of the State.  Ministries that should have a direct impact on the state's economy with no positive results.

The individualistic approach to Job creation and empowerment has only ended up in poverty management because it is not a system that could run further when Dr. Okowa leaves office in 2023.

Recall in 2018, Governor Okowa promised that the state government would intensify its investment drive to restore the glory of Warri as the commercial nerve center of the nation.

Our Dear Governor, Deltans need to experience your positive impact as 2023 draws closer, imprint a lasting legacy in the hearts of Deltans that will linger on and the people will continuously sing your praise like that of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State.
This is our cry and our plea as Deltans .

In the slow and steady fascinating highlife background beats beautifully composed two tracks ljaw highlife owigiri song, King Pereama said assuming life 'ENJOYMENT' where to be shared by humans amongst individuals, some people would have exhausted their own by now or rather the strong and wealthy people in the society would have hijacked the common man's right to enjoyment.

But he thank God for creating Enjoyment in such a way as free inbuilt deposited in every individuals to make choice by themselves to be happy and not given it to one single individual to be shared among humanity.
While touch lighting the different categories of enjoyment in our society, King Pereama stressed that some persons think they are not enjoying because of their status in life. He made them to understand that everybody in life is enjoying according to their ability. When you sleep peacefully and wake up, that is enjoyment on it own. He said those using electric fan in their homes for the purpose of cool air and you that is using hand fan is also enjoying at different level. Those who eat fried rice with chicken is to feed the stomach likewise those that use groundnuts to eat garri for the same purpose are all enjoyment. Those that drink wine while others that consume Dogoyaro root are all taken the same content of alcohol. Those listening to music, the artist (musician) himself and those dancing to the melodious tune of the music are all part of enjoyment.

King Pereama noted that since he was born, he had been unto singing and playing guitar from childhood. How wish singing enjoyment was to be shared according to limited numbers as he was singing and talking like a parrot (Akpolokpolo) for all these years, his own would have been exhausted by now but because it was inbuilt by God to all humanity, he is still enjoying singing and playing guitar to date.
King Pereama further stated that if the air we breathe in freely every day where to be shared in a limited quantity, those with wide nose hole would have exhausted their air bags. Likewise the words we speaks, especially those talkatives and gossips in the society would have wasted theirs by now. He said to feel happy and laugh is the prerogative choice strictly exercised by an individual, if not many people including himself would have larvished his own long ago and by now he will be displaying hard face without smile.

While making caricature of those who hate, envy and jealous their fellow brothers and sisters in the society, King Pereama made them to understand that how wish hatred and jealousy character was to be shared in limited numbers, them too would have exhausted their enemy of progress attitude by now.

In the concluding part of the hit track, King Pereama Freetown JP, listed some of his friends as lucky for having the prerogative power of enjoyment inbuilt in them by God, if not, they will be lamenting by now due to over enjoyment. Amongst them are; Hon. Pena Omuku, Bernnard Obiri Egarega 1, Chief. Julius Fuludu, Commander Josiah Oyakonghan, Alex Alokpa alias Epepelepe, Solomon Borusa, Capt.
