Yenagoa_____ Mr. Wisdom Stephen Benebo, who hailed from Ekeremor Town in Ekeremor local government area of Bayelsa State, is soliciting help from the state government, organizations and individuals so that his leg will not be amputated.

Benebo who made this known in an exclusive interview with Mangrovepen.ng, stated that he is a cyclist and has represented the state in several competitions before his health took a drastic turn.

According to him, “Some months ago, my left hand started swelling all of a sudden. After a series of treatments, it stopped but the swelling later moved to my right hand.

“Despite the treatment, my right hand kept swelling till it burst and had to be amputated.

He explained that he stayed in the hospital for three months as a result of unpaid bills, despite pleas to his coach for assistance.

“During that period and even now, my coach has been showing less concern. I will call her and she will ignore my calls.

“It was my friend, Ms. Ala Fynface, women leader of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC Okpoama clan), who came to visit me that assisted me in paying part of the bill. She took me to the Commissioner of Sports, who asked me to come with my coach.

“I called my coach but she kept giving me excuses. It is either she will tell me she's not around or she will ignore my calls. Even the last time I called her, she told me I should pack my bags and go live in the church.

“Some weeks ago, my left leg started swelling and it is currently giving me sleepless nights because of the excruciating pains,” he narrated.

When contacted, his friend, Ms. Fynface, pleaded with the state government to come to his rescue.

“He is the only child of his mother and she is currently broken and has fallen sick. Because of this issue, she used her only piece of land as surety in the hospital, so she can raise the remaining bill.

“The help he has gotten so far from the ministry of sports is from one Mr. Braveman Odu, who he is a director in the ministry. He gave him the sum of N80,000 to help foot his hospital bill.

“All he needs now is immediate medical attention so that his left leg will not be amputated like the right hand,” she urged.

Nigerian Senate Reject Plans By FG to Borrow $200m For Mosquito

The upper chamber of the National assembly has turned down the plans by the Ministry of Health to procure mosquito nets with $200 million under its malaria programme in the 2022 budget.

When top ministry officials appeared before the Senate Committee on Local and Foreign Debt for budget defence on Tuesday, members expressed concern about what they called an “outrageous” budget. Senator Gershom Bassey, enraged by the proposal, told the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mahmuda Mamman, that the proposed expenditure was unsustainable.

Dr Faisal Shuaib, Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), clarified that the $200 million was for mosquito net importation and local production and that the World Bank required Nigeria to buy from a specific producer.

He went on to say that the funds are intended for 13 of the country’s most vulnerable states.

Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe, the chairman of the Health Committee and a member of the committee on local and foreign debt, criticized the move, calling it a misplaced priority.

Oloriegbe told ministry officials that the World Bank should not dictate to Nigeria where mosquito nets should be purchased.

“They can’t lend us money and tell us where to get mosquito nets at the same time.” “This is something that can be found locally,” he said.

Oloriegbe demanded all documents relating to the World Bank’s $200 million loan for malaria medicine and mosquito nets.

“We know we have challenges,” he continued, “but that does not mean we should borrow for malaria medicine.”

The committee also rejected Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, the former Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC)proposal ,’s for a $100 million external borrowing plan to combat Coronavirus.

In other news, the Senate Committee on Science and Technology has rejected the National Board for Technology Incubation’s budget proposal for 2022. (NBTI).

Senator Uche Ekwunife, the committee’s chairman, revealed this on Tuesday, when the board’s management, led by acting Director-General Taiwo Somefun, appeared before the panel to defend its 2022 budget.

Checks revealed that the Ministry of Finance had revoked the financial autonomy granted to the agency’s over 40 incubation centers across the country in the 2022 budget, combining their budget proposals with those of the agency’s headquarters.

Further investigation revealed that Ogbonnaya Onu, the Minister of Science and Technology, failed to persuade Zainab Ahmed, the Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, to reverse the decision.

Senator Ekwunife, speaking to the NBTI’s management, called the finance minister’s action unconstitutional and said it was harmful to the development of technology and the entrepreneurial spirit of Nigerian youth.

Anambra Election: EFCC May Arrest Charles Soludo Over N2billion Hospital Project Fraud

Anambra Election: EFCC May Arrest Charles Soludo Over N2billion Hospital Project Fraud

The EFCC May Arrest Charles Soludo, APGA Governorship Candidate Over N2billion Hospital Project Fraud as group submit petition to EFCC.

Below is the petition:

The Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Corporate Head Quarters.

Plot 301/302, Research and Institutions District: Abuja: Nigeria.

Dear Sir,

PETITION AGAINST PROF. CHARLES SOLUDO OVER THE MISMANAGEMENT OF ABOUT N2BILLION ISUOFIA HOSPITAL PROJECT.

Mr. Chairman, Sir, 13 years ago (2008), Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, then Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, called for public donation for a hospital project at Isuofia in Aguata LGA of Anambra State.

It was a public launching that captains of industry, managing directors of banks, high network individuals and businessmen made donations for the building of what Soludo referred to as “a world-class hospital.”

During the said launch, about two billion naira was raised for the project which ought to be enough in building and equipping the hospital, given the low exchange rate at the time.

Sadly, this project has remained in limbo, with the said Professor Soludo, allegedly, diverting the money into political pursuits.

We, therefore, urge you, Sir to use your good offices to quickly intervene with a view to correcting this criminal breach of trust.

The huge money involved would have built and equipped the hospital to international standards, as well as institute an education trust fund for the less privileged, as promised.

Note that because this is a time the need for equipped medical facilities is most desirable, we thus consider it an obligation as citizens to call for action against acts of diversion of funds meant for the development of healthcare in the state by public-spirited individuals.

Please treat this petition as urgent Sir, as we see such action as contradictory to the good intentions of members of the public that donated their land and money for such social infrastructure.

We are also of the opinion that the non utilisation of the funds for the purpose which it was meant runs contrary to section 419 of the criminal code of Nigeria, and is therefore actionable.

Yours faithful,

James Afuba, Media Office, Anambra Democracy Watch.

War of words as Wike, Omo-Agege throw jabs at each other at NBA Conference

War of words as Wike, Omo-Agege throw jabs at each other at NBA Conference

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike and the Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, had a face-off at the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, conference.

Wike and Omo-Agege slammed each other at the opening of the 61st Annual General Conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.

At the conference, Wike began his speech by throwing jabs at Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong and the Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, describing them as factional leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in their States.

In the same vein, Omo-Agege, in his speech, fired back, asking Wike to extend his best wishes to Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Chairman, Uche Secondus, who has been at loggerheads with the Governor.

Governor Wike also slammed the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) for failing to fight the cause of the masses in recent years.

Wike believes the NBA has not done enough to promote good governance lately.

He said, “A little moment of introspection would reveal that the NBA is not what it used to be before the estimation of Nigerians in terms of the quality and commitments of its disposition to the struggle for the rule of law, social justice and national development.

“Since the birth of this nation, Nigerians have relied on the law and our legal system to settle disputes, prevent crime, promote democracy, protect human rights and regulate virtually all aspects of both private and public life.

“While I would leave us to be the judge, my own personal conclusion is that, for years now, the NBA has focused less on promoting and fighting for the values of good governance, democracy, judicial independence, human rights and the rule of law.

“These are some of the concerning facts: Never in our political history has Nigeria been so badly governed and denied of good governance with the Federal Government woefully failing in its basic duties to provide for the wellbeing and security of its own citizens as we have experienced in the last six years.”

Wike accused the Federal Government of continuing to undermine the welfare of judicial officers with poor remunerations.

“The struggle for a better deal for our judicial officers is one the NBA must champion with utmost priority and commitment before it’s too late in the day to rescue it from total collapse,” he said.

“I was with him last night…and he is going about his life…he will return to his home when the threats are over.”

Gen Burhan said he had dissolved civilian rule, arrested political leaders and called a state of emergency as political groups had been inciting civilians against the security forces.

Since Monday, troops are reported to have been going house to house in Khartoum arresting local protest organisers.

The city’s airport is closed and international flights are suspended.

Civilian leaders and their military counterparts have been at odds since long-time ruler Omar al-Bashir was overthrown in 2019.

An agreement between civilian and military leaders was designed to steer Sudan towards democracy but has proven fragile with a number of previous coup attempts, the last just over a month ago.

The ousted National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Prince Uche Secondus had approached the Appeal court to appeal the  judgment of the matter instituted by Alex Ibeawuchi against him (PRINCE UCHE SECONDUS V IBEAWUCHI E. ALEX & ORS.)

See how a football player was laid on his funeral day in Ghana

See how a football player was laid on his funeral day in Ghana

Francis Tayor

Ghana is a country where do not joke about funerals. Funeral is the final rite done to pay respect and homage to the person who is gone so it is not something Ghanaians joke about.

There is this trend that has been going on for a while now and that is during a funeral a dead body is laid in state according to his or her profession. So if you are a banker, you would be dressed like a banker in a bank during the funeral. If you are a teacher, you will be dressed just like you are in the class teaching.

On 3rd August, 2021, it was reported by various news portals that Godfred Yeboah popularly known as TV3 is dead. Today, he has finally been laid to rest and pictures on how his body was laid in state causes stir online.

As these pictures circulated on social media, there have been a lot of reaction from a lot of people. According to many people whented they wished him a "rest in peace" whilst others complained that the body should been lied on bed and not made to stand.

What do you think about this news? Do you think it is about time, we make dead bodies rest on bed instead of making it look like it is already alive? Let us know what you think in the comment section.

Tribute To A Falling Hero: Alaowei Friday lgbegbe, Why You Do Me So ?

By: Comrade Oyinbi Onduku, CEO/Publisher Niger Delta Mirror News Online

It was exactly 7:07PM, in the evening of 23rd October, 2021, l received the sad news of your devastating dead from a close friend. Immediately l put a call across to Ogbe-ljoh, confirming the unexpected sad end of your sudden departure to the other world Due-amabou.

You spoke to me on phone last on Monday 18th October, 2021, where you expressed your view and advised Delta ljaw youths, especially the youths of Ogbe-ljoh Warri Kingdom to tow the line of peace and stop the media war on the controversial DESOPADEC ljaw ethnic Commissioner's matter.

Just five days after, you are no more with us in this sweet and wicked world. I never knew that was the last day l will hear your sonorous voice. The Ebogha 1 of Ogbe-ljoh Warri Kingdom, why you do me so ?

l grew up to know Alaowei Friday lgbegbe personally in the year 2003 at his maternal home Ayakoromo, when he came to restore peace in the community between late Gen. John Epoko (Togo) and the Town Council.

He was a tested, trusted and fearless patriotic ljaw freedom agitator, who had undergone so many operations and came back successfully unhurt to the admiration of his people. He was never power drunk with oppressive tendency's despite the influence, popularity and power he commands.

As peace returned to warri after series of ethnic conflicts, Chief James Ibori led government of Delta State and the Multi-national oil companies operating along Odidi, Batan, Egwa Excravos Rivers engaged him as the Chief Security Officer (CSO), in other to protect the oil pipeline installations against vandalism as well as provide adequate security for the expatriates in the waterways.

As the CSO then, he called on his fellow compatriots from Meinbotu, Febokirifagha, Olabrakonpre among others to deliver on the assignment given him to provide the needed security for the Multi-national oil companies to operate peacefully in the Excravos Rivers while the contract lasted.

Politically, Alaowei Friday lgbegbe was a active member and stakeholder in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State. He was a one time elected Councilor to represent Ogbe-ljoh Ward.

Philanthropically, Friday lgbegbe was a very compassionate and generous man who always derives pleasure whenever he sees his fellow human happy. He is a cheerful giver, problem solver to whoever comes across his way with one issue or the other. He gives willingly and never in return to pay back.

As a social being, Friday lgbegbe was always full of smile at his face. He never put on hard face despite the condition. He is friendly, sociable and down to earth. He was very blunt and bend in saying the truth and doing what is right at the right time to whatever authority that may be. His truth saying made most people see him as a hard man, popularly called (stubborn man) in our contemporary society. He hates discrimination with passion. That is why he was a friend to the upcoming youths wherever he went.

Religiously, Friday lgbegbe was a christian who believe in the word and the Supreme Power of God Almighty. He was also a crusader and promoter of the ljaw culture and tradition.

Though as a human, he was not perfect but his generosity and patriotism toward the ljaw course and the Niger Delta Liberation struggle was unquantifiable. Until his sudden controversial demise, he was dedicated and committed in the ljaw course as well as the PDP family in Warri South West.

Ijaw Nation and the umbrella party PDP in Nigeria will greatly missed him.

It is hard for me to say RIP Alaowei Friday lgbegbe. You where my role model in most aspects of life. You respected and took me as a younger brother. Most at times, you  thought me on how to live in peace and happily with people around me.

I can't explain why you choose to leave this sweet and wicked world in this misterious circumstances. You where an hero and the ljaw people confide in you despite the 'Them Say' stories world people cooked against you in life.

You have unfinished projects Alaowei Friday Igbegbe, come back to accomplish them. Your ambition to become the next Council Chairman of Warri South West was on the pipeline. Why you do me so, Friday lgbegbe ?

I will greatly miss you my dear Alaowei. May God have mercy on your gentle soul in Jesus Mighty Name l pray, Amen.

Adddiiiieeeeuuuuuuu the Ebogha 1 of Ogbe-ljoh Warri Kingdom, Goodnight my hero.

Mercy Johnson Cries Out, Accuses Teacher OF Bullying Daughter

Mercy Johnson Cries Out, Accuses Teacher OF Bullying Daughter

Francis Tayor

Mercy Johnson -Okojie, a Nollywood actress, has spoken out against a teacher who bullies her daughter at her new school.

The mother of four took to Instagram to question whether being Mercy Johnson -Okojie’s daughter is a crime ?

She went on to say that she takes her role as a mother very seriously and that she will not tolerate anyone who despises her children simply because she is their mother.

Mercy explained that she instils qualities in her children such as politeness and kindness, as well as teaching them not to be intimidated by others and to always speak up when they are treated unfairly.   Following her explanation of the moral standards by which she raised her children, the Nollywood actress went on to criticise a teacher at her daughter’s school, whom she declined to name.

She explained how a teacher who is not her daughter’s class teacher frequently goes to Purity’s class and flicks her hair with a pen while telling her she doesn’t like her mother and that she believes celebrity children are frequently ill-mannered. Purity began reporting the teacher to Mercy, but Mercy thought she was exaggerating, and the abuse continued, to the point where her daughter despised going to school.

The actress went on to say that when she went to pick up her daughter from school and found her crying, she realised how bad the abuse was. Purity had been shoved by a student, and she had pushed back, but the teacher chose to only discipline her daughter. Mercy went ahead and reported the problem to the school officials, who assured her that the situation would be handled, and she is currently awaiting the outcome. ‌

Uche Secondus Moves To Stop PDP Convention

Uche Secondus Moves To Stop PDP Convention

In a letter dated 21st October, 2021, former National chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus has perfected plans to stop PDP convention.

The letter reads:

Dear Sir,

AND PENDENCY OF APPLICATION FOR INJUNCTION TO RESTRAIN
THE HOLDING OF PP NATIONAL CONVENTION

We act for the Appellant in the above captioned matter, PRINCE UCHE SECONDUS, who was
the National Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), prior to the institution of Suit
Number PHC/2183/CS/2021, and wish to bring to your attention the following facts:

1. On 23 August 2021 one Mr Ibeawuchi E. Alex and four others jointly instituted Suit No
PHC/2183/CS/2021 at the High Court of Rivers State, PortHarcourt Judicial Division against
Prince Uche Seconds and the PP as Defendants.

2. On 10 September 2021, the High Court of Rivers State delivered its judgment in the Suit
whereby Prince Uche Seconds was, inter alia, restrained from performing the functions of
the office of National Chairman of the PDP.

3. An appeal has been filed and entered against the judgment at the Court of Appeal,
PortHarcourt Judicial Division.

4. In addition, an Application on Notice has been filed in which Prince Uche Secondus is seeking, inter alia, the following orders:

i. AN ORDER of injunction restraining the PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY, the 6th Respondent herein, whether by itself, its officers, servants, agents and or representatives from holding or conducting its National Convention scheduled for 30th
and 31st October 2021 or any other date, pending the hearing and final determination of this appeal.
ALTERNATIVELY TO I ABOVE

ii. AN ORDER that the parties to this appeal, particularly the Appellant/Applicant and
the 6th Respondent (Peoples Democratic Party) shall maintain the status quo ante as at 22 August 2021, when Appellant/Applicant was occupying the office of National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, pending the hearing and final determination of this appeal.

5. The application has since been served on you and other Respondents in the appeal.

6. Notwithstanding the service of the Application for injunction, it has come to the Notice
of our client that the PP and its officers continue to prepare to hold the National Convention on 30 and 31 October 2021.

7. This letter is intended to draw your attention to the position of the law of Nigeria on this subject as encapsulated in the judgment of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in the celebrated case of GOVERNOR OF LAGOS STATE vs. CHIEF EMEKA ODUMEGWU OJUKWU (1986) I NWLR (Part 18) 621 @ 637, in which the court, reviewed various decisions on the point, and approved the following principles as the correct position of the law, that is:

“The rule is well settled …… that where a suit is brought to enjoin certain activities ……of which the defendant has notice, the hands of the defendant are effectually tied pending a hearing and
determination even though no restraining order or preliminary injunction be issued…..

The conclusion to be drawn from all the cases is that after a defendant has been notified of the pendency of a suit seeking an injunction against him even though a temporary injunction be not
granted, he acts at his peril and subject to the power of the court to restore the status wholly irrespective of the merits as they may
be ultimately decided.”

8. The same position was taken by the Court of Appeal in CHIEF ELIAS OKEKE-OBA vs. IKWUKA OKOYE (1994) 8 NWLR (364) 605 @ 617-618, where the court said as follows:

“The general practice is that on application for an order for interlocutory injunction, all activities affecting the res, ….are automatically terminated as a mark of respect to the court before whom the application is pending.…..if..parties to the suit senselessly rush their tortious trespassory activities…in the spacious belief that that would promote their unfounded claims to the res. Nothing can be farther from the truth. Such heedless posture is, to say the least, a fragrant disrespect to the court. It clearly, in my opinion amounts to intransigence for a party against whom an order for injunction is sought to intensify his interference with the res.. The court cannot be hoodwinked by such impropriety of unlawful acts in relation to the res.……Nor can the person in such disrespect be allowed to take advantage of his default and flagrant intransigence.”

9. The logical corollary of the foregoing pronouncements of the courts is that having been served with an application seeking to restrain the holding of its National Convention
pending the determination of the appeal filed by Prince Uche Seconds, the PDP would
be embarking upon a collision course with the court if it proceeds to hold the National
Convention before the hearing and determination of the Application.

10. Should such contumacious conduct of holding the National Convention before the hearing
and determination of the Application be embarked upon by the Party however, we shall
not hesitate to bring the full weight of the law against all national officers of the Party that
are responsible for such conduct of contempt of court.

11. Quite apart from the fact that such contumacious conduct would impinge on the integrity of the Party, we would on our part, swiftly take steps to invoke the jurisdiction of the
court to nullify any decision, action or step taken at such Convention.

We trust that you will wisely advise the Peoples’ Democratic Party and its officers in this reg

Just-ln: Femi Otedola Takes Over First Bank Nigeria

Just-ln: Femi Otedola Takes Over First Bank Nigeria

Francis Tayor

Femi Otedola, a billionaire businessman, has taken over First Bank of Nigeria Plc with his recent acquisition of about N30 billion worth of shares, making him the bank’s single largest shareholder.

He had a humongous loan portfolio of N192 billion in 2012 via his then Zenon Petroleum and Gas Ltd, which was eventually passed on to the Asset Management Company of Nigeria. This invariably means that, as the largest shareholder, he owns the most voting shares and, as a result, has the most power over the bank’s direction.

Many people were surprised when he sold his 75 percent direct and indirect stake in Forte Oil in 2019 via a merger of his company Zenon Oil and former African Petroleum, especially given the lucrative nature of the oil and gas industry.

He didn’t keep them guessing for long, as he soon announced that he wanted to explore and maximise refining and petrochemicals business opportunities. Despite having investments in the real estate and financial sectors, Otedola singled out First Bank for the simple reason that, unlike other new generation banks, there wasn’t exactly one man in charge.

He wasted no time in capitalising on the leadership crisis that rocked First Bank recently, with the Central Bank of Nigeria sacking both the bank’s chairman, Ibukun Awosika, and the chairman of FBN Holdings, Obafemi Otudeko.

Femi Otedola made his moves, and today he is a better person as a result of them.
