How OLIVER DE COQUE's most kept secret took him to an early grave_ Son reveal

How OLIVER DE COQUE's most kept secret took him to an early grave_ Son reveal

HIS NAME, HIS MUSIC & HIS LIFESTYLE

Chief Dr. Oliver Sunday Akanite popularly known as Oliver De Coque was a Nigerian highlife musician and guitarist who has more than 50 albums to his credit and whose career lasted over 4 decades, making him one of the most popular highlife kings in Africa. Oliver and his music band group, 'Ogene Sound Super of Africa' blended modern highlife and traditional Igbo music.

The music star had 12 kids; 7 boys and 5 girls and they all enjoyed their father's presence. "It was awesome. My siblings and I didn't see him as a famous person. He was a normal, caring, jovial and loving dad to us," Darlington Akanite, one of his sons disclosed.
While growing up, Oliver was popularly called, 'The Game Master'  because he was good at the game of Draft. Draft in Igbo language is 'Okwe.' So, People began to call him 'Oliver Di ka Okwe.' He then changed the name to sound more like a French name; that was how he came up with, 'Oliver De Coque.'

HIS SIGNATURE LOOK

He loved to buy clothes and spent a lot of money maintaining his looks. Infact, he spent #30,000 on his beard weekly and that amounted to #120,000 monthly. He visited his Salon twice a week and always said his beard was his Signature look. He said that if someone decided to keep a beard, it was right to maintain it.

HIS SICKNESS & HOW HE DIED

He fell ill at the end of 2007. He was diabetic and hypertensive. Most artistes don't like to disclose their health challenge and his son is of the opinion that if Oliver had told people about his health challenge, he would have gotten help quickly. "He was ill for three months. He then recovered in February 2008 and began to go for shows. He died on June 20 but he had planned to travel to the U.S on July 2 for checkup," Darlington added. He went further to tell the press that it was as if his father knew he was going to die because on the day he died, he decided to stay indoors. "And he told me to stay by his side." "That morning after he had his brekfast, he began to feel ill and cancelled his appointments for the day. I didn't know it was a serious matter; all I could do was to console him. I went to the bathroom to take a shower and then told him that I wanted to visit a few friends but he begged me not to leave his side and I became upset. I thought he was just depriving me of having fun. I grudgingly stayed back."
While Darlington stayed with him, he began to tell him how he started his career. As he was telling the story, he complained of not breathing well. Oliver then decided that he should be taken to the hospital. On their way to the hospital, he told the driver to increase the air-condition that he was feeling hot. His son became scared when he started to shout, "Wheelbarrow! Wheelbarrow! Darlington, please bring a Wheelbarrow." It was after his death, Darlington who wondered what was happening realised that the highlife maestro was referring to a WheelChair not actually a Wheelbarrow.

"I think he was becoming paralysed and unconscious. He was rushed to the emergency ward when we got to the hospital. And throughout his time in the hospital, he kept begging me to save him but there was nothing I could have done," the Son said.
He held Darlington's hand close to his side as he took his last breathe. His son closed his eyes and kissed him on the forehead. "I was so confused about all that happened."

LESSON

His son believes that more than 200 Igbo people would have laid their lives down for him if he had made his health condition public.
He's gone leaving behind a vacuum but he's taught the entire family a lesson that whenever one is facing a challenge, one shouldn't keep quiet about it. "I want people to learn from his death."

He was born into a family of eight (8) children on the 1st of May, 1984 to the May family of Ayakoromo community, Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, South South Nigeria. He is the sixth son among the musically blessed May family of Ayakoromo.
Academically, he attended Egolegbene Primary School 1992-1998, and proceeded to Obotebe Secondary School in 2001-2007. His academic pursuit doesn't end here as he went further to oversea (Ghana) in 2013 to study Automobile Mechanic Engineering Course at the prestigious Kumasi National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) Ghana, and come out in a flying colour as he bagged a professional Automobile Mechanic Engineer Certificate.

And of course, if you ask me, Best May can be henceforth undisputedly and confidentially addressed as Gen. (Engr.) Best May Jfred because he has undergo the four corners of Higher lnstitution not just in the shores of Nigeria but Abroad.

Emphasizing on the genesis of his music career, the trailblazer and the young gifted shining music jewelry of ljaw nation confirmed that he developed interest in ljaw owigiri highlife music far back 1994 while he was 10 years old through his elder brother, late Senator Fred Ebi May of blessed memory. He said at that tender age, most at times he do music practice at home with his elder brother and do attend live shows with him occasionally.
But he started playing music on stage under the tutelage of Chief. Joseph Ekeremieye in 2004 after the sudden demise of his elder brother Sen. Fred Ebi May in 2001. While with Joseph Ekeremieye, he played as backup artist (singer) for a reasonable period of eleven years before leaving him in the year 2015.

After leaving his mentor, he decided to stay at home to groam himself through consistent practice and rehearsal with all the experiences he had gathered over the years for exactly one year and nine months before taking the bold step to take his destiny in his hand by venturing into the competitive ljaw owigiri highlife music entertainment world in the year 2017.

He goes by the stage name Gen. Best May popularly known as Junior Fred abbreviated as (Jfred) in remembrance to keep alive the good memories of his late elder brother, Senator Fred Ebi May of blessed memory whom he admired as his role model and tapped the music grace to build on. His music organization is known as Gen. Best May and his Giant Star Band of Africa.

The professional Automobile Mechanic Engineer earlier discovered his talent for music at age 10 and chronologically nurtured it to materialize with hardwork, obedience, endurance, focus, dedication and patience. From backup singer, the ever blazing Best May has metamorphosed to a band leader, song writer, singer, producer, lead guitarist, keyboardist as well as master of many other instruments in the music industry.

The heart touching Album was released and dedicated to honour and comemorate the 5th years anniversary of his departed elder brother  fondly called the music senator due to his vocal and sonorous voice in the ljaw owigiri highlife music industry at then.

Having released that album to the amazement of ljaw nation, lovers and fans of late Fred Ebi May, his immediate family, Ayakoromo community and the entire ljaw nation began to have some relieve over the tragic death of his elder brother and inculcated in him to be strong and keep the good artistic work going in order to bring the family name to a limelight musically to the world.
And today, Best May is making ljaw nation proud with maximum dedication, selfless and energetic electrifying live performance at any given occasion his services is engaged at both day and night burial, marriages, child dedication, house warming, birthday party, political gathering, naming ceremony shows etc.

Fantastically, nature shine on Best May and brought him to a limelight musically in ljaw nation and loved by his admirers as he released his ever green debut album titled: 'PEPPER DEM' in the year 2021. In that song, the shining music Gold of Ayakoromo community unveiled the ill doings of society whereby people around you jealous and envy whatever thing you do or achieve in life. In that song, he criticize and condemn the actions of enemies of progress in our society. He noted that instead of people in the society to love one another and celebrate over your neighbour's success story rather they resent to envy and jealousy. He said as people in the society fail to obey God in loving their neighbours as themselves, God will not permit them to triumph in their evil bids against His children, rather they will perpetually wallow and die in pains with their envy and jealous character while God obedient children will keep progressing in life in their midst.

Best May Jfred lives a simple life style devoid of envy and jealous. He is so passionate about the downtrodden in the society. A great philanthropist by birth and he has a registered foundation (charity) organization called, 'Best May Foundation' that he used to extend love and helping hand to the needy in the society annually. He is loved by the young and old because of his humble character coupled with his agility and dexterity on stage display.

Infact, Best May musically possesses the peculiar characters of King Pereama Freetown JP, who performs wholeheartedly at any given occasion without pretence. Research has revealed that from the year 2020 to date, Best May Jfred remains the best and most booked fast growing musician in ljaw nation due to his selfless philanthropic life style within warri and its environ. He stands tall amongst his contemporary colleagues in the ljaw owigiri highlife music entertainment industry. Disregard Egin As Agadagba Elect of Egbema Kingdom - Adaun

Sunday Apah

The Chairman of Egbema Regency Council, Chief Johnbull Adaun, has urged the people of Egbema Kingdom and the public to disregard the purported installation of one Napoleon Egin as Agadagba-elect of Egbema Kingdom as it did not pass through the laid down processes and procedures leading to the selection and installation of the Bini- pere, the Agadagba of Egbema Kingdom.

In a press statement signed by Chief Johnbull Adaun, Chairman, Egbema Regency Council, said the press release was as a result of various social media publications and congratulatory messages of a purported installation of one Napoleon Egin as Agadagba elect of Egbema Kingdom.
The statement reads; "to put the records straight for the interest of the unsuspecting public that Egbema Kingdom has not selected not an Agadagba elect let alone presenting him to the general public.

"The instrument establishing the  time tested tradition and custom of the Egbema kingdom, has  laid down processes and procedures leading up the selection and installation of the Bini- pere, the Agadagba of Egbema Kingdom.

"To this end, since the demise of the last Agadagba Pere Gold Oro Tiemo, Bini- Pere the III of Egbema Kingdom, and in line with the dictates of the gazzatte, a Regency Council was duly constituted to oversee the affairs of the Kingdom during the period of the Interregnum and the period leading up to the selection and installation of a new Agadagba, which process is still ongoing.

"Where we are today in this process is a formal mandate to the Ogbudugbudu Ruling House whose turn is to produce the next Agadagba to submit their nomination to the the Kingdom.

"In a meeting of the kingdom held on 1st October, 2022 at the Town Hall in Ofunama, the Ogbudugbudu Ruling House has formally presented their nominees for screening and eventual selection of the next Agadagba elect of the Kingdom.

"The next step is for the kingdom to carry out the traditional and general screening and selection before the traditional stool at Ajakurama Town where such assignment is carried out by the king makers (Okparan abor).

"Anything outside this process is false, misleading and null and void and it is antithetical and anathema to the time tested traditional installation process of the Agadagba of the Kingdom.

"Therefore we want to state unequivocally that the information in the public domain about the purported installations is false, baseless and should be discountanced in its entirety has it is  meant to mislead the general public and cause disaffection in the Kingdom.

"At the appropriate time, the general public will be informed of  developments in the Kingdom", it added.

Biggy tackles Ipidei, calls him ingrate, chronic liar over APC member allegation

Biggy tackles Ipidei, calls him ingrate, chronic liar over APC member allegation

....... Says he remains a card carrying member of PDP

Francis Tayor

Yenagoa_____ Chairman Biggy Foundation Worldwide and Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Ward 14 in Southern ljaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Double Chief. Ebi Wilson Pinapinawei, aka Commander Biggy, has lambasted one self styled ghost Media Assistant, Patrick lpidei as ingrate, brat and chronic liar over his watery respond to his recent publication directed to the governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri and the Executive Secretary, Bayelsa State Higher Education Students Loan Board, Dr. Michael Amaegberi JP, thereby referring to him as not member of PDP rather a member of the opposition party APC in the state.
Commander Biggy in a statement released on Thursday noted that he remains a card carrying member of PDP, and will continue to work for the victory of all the candidates of the umbrella party in the forthcoming 2023 general elections, despite the ill treatment by the leaders of the party against him.

Biggy stressed that he only expressed his anger and displeasure to the miracle Governor of Bayelsa State, Sen. Douye Diri and his leader Dr. Michael Amaegberi over neglecting him and his boys after working for the party in the 2019 general elections.
He noted that expressing his feelings to his leaders does not give little Patrick lpidei the impetus to peddle in lies and cooked stories against his personality.

The former ex-agitator corrected the unknown facebook Media Assistant lpidei that he had been a hardent member and worked for PDP over the past 15 years 2007-2022 while he (Patrick) was a baby, stressing that he only defected to APC on the 27th September, 2019 due to disatisfaction.
Biggy reiterated that his leader, Dr. Amaegberi appealed to him to come back to his family PDP, whose opinion he respected and decamped back to PDP on the 8th of November, 2019 barely after one month in the opposition party, APC.

There is no iota of truth and fact in lpidei's worthless facebook post he refers to as rejoinder, adding that he has nothing to do with the ingrate and the baby ghost facebook Media Assistant who is known for eye service in order to put food on the table for his family.

According to Commander Biggy, said:

" I don't have any time to decieve anyone because of appointment. When I started this politics, it was with Dr. Amaegberi JP, the Executive Secretary Higher Education Student Loan Board/Member Bayelsa State Economic Planning Committee. When I started working with him for PDP, all those people that got appointment today that is saying rubbish were no where to be found.

" Patrick Ipidei, you're just a mayopic eye service brat in politics and again you're a baby politician. Even the publication you made this morning was all about lies. I haven't in any day discussed with you about Dr. Michael Amaegberi's House of Assembly bid. I only said Dr. Michael Amaegberi, when he contested for House of Assembly, I was one of the able body men who followed him along and we had an accident that even the boat capsized.

" Patrick Ipidei, when I started working for PDP with Dr. Michael Amaegberi and others in Bayelsa State, you were a kid. At that particular time, Dr. Michael Amaegberi and others were the political leaders in ward 14 even before now.

" When I was working with these people, I was younger than this and haven't even gave birth to any child. I don't want to quote people. Although, favour can come from anywhere, so you where opportuned to be favoured by the government that's why you can talk to me in this manner.

" The people that the government gave appointments, how many of them played politics before me under the rulling party (PDP) apart from our leader Dr. Michael Amaegberi ?

" All those people that have appointments today, they all know that I joined politics, work for PDP before them. The reason why I'm not worried about appointment is because of my educational background.

" On my publication yesterday, I also stated it clearly there and that I truly I defected to APC on 27th September, 2019 due to disatisfaction. But It was Dr. Michael Amaegberi that called me to come back to PDP and I respected him and came back. That was how he took me to met with the governor on November 8th, 2019 and from there we worked together before, during and after the election."

" It was on the 8th of November, 2019 Dr. Michael Amaegberi took me to the governor.

" The day of the election, I sent all my boys down to cast their votes, while I was at my special place with my pot, doing the needed spiritual works till they came back safe and sound.

" There's no permanent friend and enemy just like what our father, the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan had said.

" Patrick, I feel so ashamed of you. You said I'm a member of APC right ? Where you not the one that took me to Hon. Basil Kenibor, from Basil Kenbor, we moved to met with Pori. And we were on our way before we got a call that he had an emergency to Abuja, that was why we were unable to met with him. You are here telling me I'm not a member of PDP. So, you're also playing a double leg politics ? You claimed I'm not a PDP member, why do you take me to those people I mentioned ?

" Do you know it was myself and my boys that mount the PDP House of Representative Candidate, Engr. Rodney Ebikebina Ambaiowei to Oporoma and brought him back to Yenagoa safely during the recent PDP primaries conducted at Oporoma ?

" You said you're a media aide, did I dispute that fact? Let me tell you, I can't insult or drag Dr. Michael Amaegberi, he's my leader and elder brother. Even today I received a call from some of my brothers and sisters in Ekeni that Dr. Michael Amaegberi has distributed relief materials and I was very happy for that.

You Can't Use and Dump Me, Gen. Biggy Tell Gov. Diri, Amaegberi, Others

You Can't Use and Dump Me, Gen. Biggy Tell Gov. Diri, Amaegberi, Others

........ Acuses them of deliberate neglect after using him for 2019 general elections

Francis Tayor

Yenagoa ______ A renowned ex-Niger Delta agitator and a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Ward 14 in Southern ljaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Double Chief. Ebi Wilson Pinapinawei popularly known as Commander Biggy, has spit fire and accused the leaders of PDP in Bayelsa State, especially the Executive Miracle Governor, His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri and Dr. Michael Amaegberi (JP) of deliberately dumping him after using him and his boys numbering over two hundred for the party in the 2019 general elections that brought them to power miraculously.
Commander Biggy raise the alarm today Wednesday 19th October, 2022 in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State Capital after addressing a team of journalists, stressed that him and his boys had a sleepless day and night under the sun and rain worked hard alongside with Dr. Michael Amaegberi JP, the former speaker Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Hon. Konbowei Benson, Hon. Alabo Gideon Ekewei and the current Commissioner for Power, Hon. Ebitei Tonyon for the election of His Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri to miraculously came into power in 2020 while him and his boys were kept behind bench to suffer and die in hunger and hardship over the past three years.

He lamented that the above mentioned Bayelsa born ljaw leaders has deliberately refused to carry him and his boys along after using him to work for their victory during 2019 general elections. He noted that most people the Bayelsa government is given appointment in the state are those who did not even worked neither suffer for them during the election. It is regrettable and very unfortunate to be used and dumped like a commercial prostitute roaming in the streets of Yenagoa.
According to Biggy, said;" Gov. Douye Diri, Dr. Michael Amaegberi and others cannot used and denied me for appointment. PDP belongs to all of us, it is not a family business. I have faithfully worked, delivered and contributed my quota for the party over the past 15 years 2007-2022. It is my right to reap from where l sow seed over the years. One thing l want them to know is that, an ldle mind is the devils workshop. And the hungry man is an hangry man, hence they should as a matter of urgency address my challenges now or else, there shall be no peace in our party in the coming 2023 general elections, Commander Biggy stated."

However, read below full details of the statement:

Message To The Bayelsa State Government:

19th October, 2022

The Governor of Bayelsa State, Sen. Douye Diri and Dr. Michael Amaegberi JP, the Secretary, Higher lnstitution Loan Board and also member of the Bayelsa State Economic Planning Committee.

This message is for the aforementioned names. The way I'm not carried along is not good at all, tomorrow if I put my hand on things that are not good, that's when you people will say I should have asked instead, but now I'm crying out for help, non of you want to hear my cry.

In the politics of Bayelsa State, apart from our former Governor, late DSP Alamieyeseigha, I worked for all other governors that have governed the state including the present administration ably led by our amiable Governor, Excellency, Sen. Douye Diri.

When Dr. Michael Amaegberi was contesting for Bayelsa state House of Assembly, I was his personal body guard and when we get to our home town we got accident but God was so faithful that there were no casualties. So, is Dr. Michael Amaegberi telling me that he has forgotten that in a rush ?

It's because of this very things that made me to carry all my boys to APC. I said let's go and try APC first. Then Dr. Michael Amaegberi, you personally called me back that I should come back to PDP because it is your home and I saw reasons with you and followed you back to PDP. You took me to the governor, even the governor said let's work together and I agreed and worked with him both physically and spiritually that made us to have the Miracle Governor, yet the miracle hasn't reached me.

Dr. Michael Amaegberi knows very well that I have more than two hundred (200) boys, well trained and cultured. That's why you haven't heard any day that they have gone to commit a crime. I have been patient for a very long time, there's no one that's as patient as myself. Even in the Ward 14 politics, people that I played politics before them in that Ward have benefited alot but they have neglected me. I'm a grassroot politician in PDP to be precisely, yet no one cares to know!

Is it because I don't have the B.sc and doctorate degree that you people have? At least there are also work that is giving to uneducated people like myself, or are you people telling me that you can not even give me at least SSA to the governor on snail and water snail supply? As it is now, is time for the governor to give me something, so that I can manage with the boys. I can't keep quiet anymore!

I can't commit any crime or do eye service. Most people in Bayelsa state knows me very well that I have boys and I am also an ex-agitator. Is time for the government of Bayelsa state to take care of myself and my boys because we have worked very well for the prosperity government.

You people should help me ask Dr. Konbowei Benson, if I haven't followed him for his campaign, sang songs under the sun and in the rain?

Ask Alabo Gideon Ekewei, if I haven't followed him for any campaign? Has he forgotten when we were voting at Oporoma community?

Why are you people keeping me like this? Are you people waiting to hear that I have died before you sponsor my burial and be telling people how helpful you are while alive?

The commissioner for Power, Ebitei Tonyon are you just sitting down? Can't you tell the governor about me?

Let me tell you people the simple truth, I have been keeping quiet for so long but it can't be anymore. You people should tell the governor of Bayelsa state that if he didn't do the needful he shouldn't think of coming to Ward 14 for any campaign or election. I know some of the SSA on eye service will tell the governor that I am just making noise that he shouldn't be afraid. Our dear amiable Governor, please do the needful before it is too late.

We have a miracle governor but I have nothing.

If it's because of the B.sc, Masters and PhD degrees that I don't have that is making you people to neglect me, I have over two hundred boys, out of them, almost one hundred and fifty are B.sc holders. If you can't empower me, then empower my boys for crying out loud!

I need a quick response from the Bayelsa state government because enough is enough.

The above names I mentioned earlier should tell the government. Help me now that I am still alive!

Imagine having a picture with the governor in government house, stategizing on how to win the election that brought him to power but I don't have a dime in any of my account!

I have First Bank, Zenith Bank, Access Bank, FCMB and UBA respectfully, yet no kobo in those accounts, except for the UBA that has five thousand naira (#5000) that I can't even withdraw. The governor should send a team to investigate what I'm saying. I have miracle governor but I don't have miracle appointment.

To all appointees in ward 14, is only Dr. Michael Amaegberi PhD that I can say is not only using his appointment for himself alone but for others as well. You see all other people, the appointment is for themselves alone. What a shame, the statement added.
