Trouble In Church As Popular Pastor Lashes Members For Arriving Let To Worship

Pastor Paul Muwanguzi has not forgotten about those who were unable to attend his earlier service.

TONY URANTA, DEAD? A Glowing Tribute By Timi Alaibe

TONY URANTA, DEAD? A Glowing Tribute By Timi Alaibe

It is hard to believe. I can’t make sense of it. It does not in any way add up. This cannot be true. The harder I try to deny it, the deeper it sinks in; that my beloved brother, TONY IPRIYE URANTA is no more. For once, death has ceased to make sense.

Wait a minute! How did this happen? I knew Tony was indisposed. But nothing indicated that he was heading home so soon. Tony was not supposed to die. It never crossed my mind. We kept talking. We kept praying. We kept hoping for a miraculous recovery. Ideas and other resources to make this happen were deployed.

Then, suddenly, the news hit me on Wednesday afternoon. It wasn’t the news of his recovery. The news came in gasps. The voice I heard was not his. It was not altogether strange. But it did not convey good news. The message was brief; unwelcome.

No, this is still not true. Tony cannot die; just like that. Bad news has dark spots; even in broad daylight. Bad news makes the heart to beat faster. Bad news travels fast. It conveys sadness. It tastes sour, even bitter. This news was bad, exceptionally bad.

Tony and I worked together on several strategic projects for the good of the Niger Delta people. They were all on development and peace initiatives. We shared common platforms; like the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), where he was Executive Secretary. Tony was Executive Secretary of the United Niger Delta Energy Development Security Strategy (UNDEDSS) and Executive Secretary of the Nigeria National Summit Group, among others.

I remember with delight the commitment and exceptional determination Tony displayed when we both served as members of the Ledum Mitee-led Niger Delta Technical Committee constituted in 2008 by the late President Yar’Adua in response to the Niger Delta conflict; to address the medium to long term regional development in the oil-rich region.

Tony was a quintessential peace advocate. I recall in 2015 when the famed Niger Delta Avengers commenced activities to shut down oil installations and threatened oil production and the stability of the region. One day, Nduka Obaigbena, Tony and I travelled in Obaigbena’s private jet to Warri to meet the stakeholders; and subsequently to Abuja in an effort to achieve a cease fire and ensure peaceful resolution of the crisis. The deliberations of that first meeting, which was chaired by elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark, eventually gave birth to PANDEF.

His exit has come dozens of years ahead of its time. What shall we tell our children? He laboured and sweated for the Niger Delta but has not lived to reap the fruits of his labour. His voice was respected on national and regional issues. Today, that voice has been silenced in death.

To his beloved wife Baarong, and the entire family, we pray for God’s guidance and strength. We have lost a great friend and a patriot; a man of principles and a distinguished gentleman. He was and would always remain a symbol of peace.

Rest in Peace, Tony Ipriye Uranta!

Police Nab 77-Years Old Welder Who Produces Guns For Criminals ln Isoko, Delta State

The Delta State Commissioner of Police CP Ari Muhammed Ali, FCIA, psc+  has reiterated that Proactive Policing is his watch word and modus operandi because it is better to prevent crime than reacting to it. He said taking the battle to the den of criminals, arresting and prosecuting them will go a long way in deterring the minds of others who are thinking of going into crime. Stop and search, intensive patrol and continuous raid of black spots/criminal hideouts and intelligence gathering are part of the proactive policing that the CP has directed Area commanders, DPOS, and tactical commanders to adopt. These proactive policing has continued to yield results as the command has recorded yet another major success against crimes and criminality.

1) ARREST OF A SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBER AND A 77YEAR OLD GUN RUNNER/RECOVERY OF THREE DOUBLE BARREL GUNS AND TWO SINGLE BARREL GUNS:

Since then It was this my mother that took care of me and my siblings over the past 35years. There was no sign that her little leg pain would led her to  death. I never expected it but God decided and who am l to question God."

" This your visit has strengthened me and my siblings to stay strong. Thank you for the show of love and l sincerely appreciated you people for coming to sympathize with me despite your busy schedules. May God bless you all for your kind gesture," Mulade remarked.

Edo Govt Continues Removal of ‘Illegal’ Structures In Benin

Edo Govt Continues Removal of ‘Illegal’ Structures In Benin

Benin____ The Edo State Government says it has intensified the demolition of illegal structures constructed under high tension cables and other unauthorized places in the Benin metropolis.

The exercise is aimed at removing structures by illegal developers and squatters that trade in unauthorized locations such as under the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) High Tension Lines in the metropolis.

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mrs. Isoken Omo said the demolition is in line with the government’s urban renewal drive.

She said the exercise became necessary following the expiry of notices and a series of warnings served to the landowners and occupants of the property.

According to her, “We are on a demolition exercise to remove illegal structures and traders under high tension/power line at Trinity Way, popularly known as Abuja Quarters.”

“How can you do an illegal thing and try to legalize it? Are we to accept things that are wrong because of some negative impacts?” she queried.

“If you know the law and decide to break it, there is always a consequence. These are some of the consequences,” the Commissioner noted.

Omo further stated, “We have, in the last two years, served notices to these people; it is not just about their livelihoods, what about their safety? If anything happens under this power line, who will be blamed? It will be the government that will be blamed; they will say the government is not doing its job.

“These places are also hideouts for hoodlums and other vices are going on there at night. It is not safe to be under power lines; the development here is haphazard; there is no planning.

“We have given them ample time to move, but instead of them to move they are building more permanent structures under the power line. We owe our state and ourselves the duty to maintain our environment and keep the environment habitable.”

The government bulldozers brought down several illegal structures, including stalls and eave extensions around Ugbor in Government Reservation Area (GRA), Benin City, even as the exercise is expected to continue.

Buhari Hails Dr Goodluck Jonathan @ 64

On behalf of the government and Nigerians, President Muhammadu Buhari greets former President, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, on his 64th birthday anniversary, November 17, 2021, congratulating him for serving the country, and working for the peace and advancement of democracy on the African continent.

The President affirms that Dr. Jonathan continues to expand the boundaries of leadership, teaching many in the country the power of focus, consistency and diligence, having served as Deputy Governor, Governor, Vice President, President, African Union Envoy and now, Chairman of the International Summit Council for Peace Africa (ISCP-Africa).

ISCP-Africa is an association of incumbent and former heads of state and their deputies, established in 2019 by the Universal Peace Federation, an organization in general consultative status with the United Nations (UN).

President Buhari believes the former President’s profile should remind those in position and all aspiring leaders that serving the country and humanity requires sacrifice, and ultimately placing the interest of others above personal gains.

As Dr. Jonathan turns 64, the President sends warm greetings to him and his family, praying that the Almighty God will continue to sustain them in good health and all round well being, the statement added.

Just In: Nigeria is at the point of no return — US.... lt said the country is in its last phase.

Just In: Nigeria is at the point of no return —US.... lt said the country is in its last phase.

The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), and the Harvard Kennedy School in the United States, have said that Nigeria as a nation, is at a point of no return haven showed all the signs of a failed nation.

The organisation which made the disclosure in a research finding it released through its senior fellow and former US Ambassador to Nigeria, John Campbell and Mr Robert Rotberg, who is the founding director, Harvard Kennedy School’s Programme on Intrastate Conflict and president emeritus, World Peace Foundation, said Nigeria is currently in its final phase, from which it would eventually collapse.

The organisation said their position was not based on emotion or the fancy of using pejorative words to described the situation, but on “a body of political theory developed at the turn of this century and elaborated upon, case by case, ever since.”

Its report said Nigeria has since moved from being a weak state to “a fully failed state,” having manifested all the signs of a failed country, including the inability of government to protect the citizens, large scale violence and festering insurgency.

According to them, President Muhammadu Buhari admitting that the Federal Government has lost control of the situation is the first step towards the restoration of stability. The duo warned that Nigeria’s failure as a state comes with negative consequences for peace and security in West Africa sub-region as well as Europe and the US.

“Nigeria has long teetered on the precipice of failure. But now, unable to keep its citizens safe and secure, Nigeria has become a fully failed state of critical geopolitical concern.

“Its failure matters because the peace and prosperity of Africa and preventing the spread of disorder and militancy around the globe depend on a stronger Nigeria.

“Its economy is usually estimated to be Africa’s largest or second largest, after South Africa. Long West Africa’s hegemon, Nigeria played a positive role in promoting African peace and security.

“With state failure, it can no longer sustain that vocation, and no replacement is in sight. Its security challenges are already destabilising the West African region in the face of resurgent jihadism, making the battles of the Sahel that much more difficult to contain.

“And spillover from Nigeria’s failures ultimately affect the security of Europe and the United States.

“Indeed, thoughtful Nigerians over the past decade have debated, often fervently, whether their state has failed. Increasingly, their consensus is that it has,” the report published on foreignpolicy(dot)com on Thursday, said.

The report further says, "There are four kinds of nations: the strong, the weak, the failed, and the collapsed.

"According to previously published research estimates, of the 193 members of the United Nations, 60 or 70 are strong—the nations that rank highest in the listings of Freedom House, the human rights reports of the U. S. State Department, the anticorruption perception indices of Transparency International, and so on.

"There are three places that should be considered collapsed: Somalia, South Sudan, and Yemen.

"Eighty or 90 U.N. members are weak. Weakness consists of providing many, but not all, of essential public goods, the most important of which are security and safety. If citizens are not secure from harm within national borders, governments cannot deliver good governance (the essential services that citizens expect) to their constituents.

"Possibly a dozen or so states are failed, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, and Myanmar. Each lacks security, is unsafe, has weak rules of law, is corrupt, limits political participation and voice, discriminates within its borders against various classes and kinds of citizens, and provides educational and medical services sparingly. Most of all, failed states are violent.

"All failed states harbor some form of violent internal strife, such as civil war or insurgency. Nigeria now confronts six or more internal insurrections and the inability of the Nigerian state to provide peace and stability to its people has tipped a hitherto very weak state into failure.

"According to political theory, the government’s inability to thwart the Boko Haram insurgency is enough to diagnose Nigeria as a failed state. But there are many more symptoms. At a bare minimum, citizens expect their states to keep them secure from external attack and to keep them safe within their borders.

"The bargain that subjects long ago made with their sovereigns was being kept from harm in exchange for allegiance and taxation. When that quid pro quo breaks down, a state loses its coherence, its social fabric disintegrates, and warring factions subvert the social contract that should provide the fundamental foundation of the state.

"Nigeria now appears to have reached the point of no return. Indeed, few parts of Nigeria are today fully safe," the report added.

John Campbell, a former US Ambassador to Nigeria.

2023: PDP Will Adopt Consensus Presidential Candidate, Says Ortom

2023: PDP Will Adopt Consensus Presidential Candidate, Says Ortom

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom yesterday said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would adopt consensus option for the emergence of its presidential candidate for the 2023 election.

He also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to return the amended Electoral Act sent to him for assent to the National Assembly, saying the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) does not have the capacity to monitor direct primary elections among 18 political parties.

Addressing a media briefing in Abuja, Ortom said the PDP would adopt consensus option at all levels, including the presidential candidate in choosing its standard-bearers for the 2023 general elections.

The Benue State governor also alleged that so far, over 1700 citizens and 100 security officials had been killed in the security crisis involving the herdsmen and farmers in the state

He said: “In 2023, we are going to adopt a consensus option in the nomination of all candidates and where we cannot reach a consensus as we did in the election of the members of the National Working Committee (NWC) and where we cannot reach a consensus, we will have elections”
