Delta Taskforce lnspects Warri Canals To Clear Blocked Water channels To Control Flooding


Delta State Taskforce on environment today inspected silted canals around  warri metropolis to give way for free flow of water into the river.


Speaking  with the newsmen during the inspection,  the state taskforce Chairman on Environment, Hon. Sylvester Oromoni noted that the exercise was a measure put in place by the Okowa led government meant to proffer a permanent solution to curbed the perennial flooding affecting residents in warri and its environ.


Hon. Oromoni stressed that the state taskforce on  Environment has begun to work out modalities to clear all the blocked canals within Warri/Uvwie and environs so as to control the incessant flooding in the city.


He therefore, urged residents who built on  natural  water routes to vacate their homes within one week or face demolition. 


Inspected areas includes; the canal connecting Daudu street in lgbudu market down to lower Erejuwa, PBJebba along Warri Sapele road, stadium road and Bowen amongst others. 


Meanwhile, the team also discovered that most landlords along Stadium road blocked natural lines thereby obstructing free flow of water into the main warri river.


Hon. Oromoni was accompanied by Comrade Kingsley lweka, Coordinator Delta Central and south, supervisors and the Environmental Chairman of Igbudu Market management amongst others.
