Taskforce pulls down illegal structures along Enerhen, Udu in Delta

....lssues 3Days Ultimatum to traders in Udu, Jigbale Markets to vacate shops under high tension

Following the directives of Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa to keep Delta state clean and safe, operatives of the State Taskforce on Environment on monday, demolished illegal structures, containerised shops at Enerhen junction, along Udu road areas of the state.

Speaking during the demolition exercise, the Chairman of the state taskforce, Hon. Sylvester Oromoni disclosed that the demolition was sequel to an earlier ‘Removal Order’ by the government served on owners/occupants of those illegal shanties based on series of complaints by motorists and pedestrians of frequent traffic jam along the road as result of street trading activities, stressing that no trader is allowed to shade on public walkways as well as on top drainage system.

He explained that after the expiration of the Removal Order, the government was magnanimous enough to add 21days grace to remove their belongings and vacate the entire area, but unfortunately some stubborn traders refused to comply with the directive.

According to Oromoni, “These shanties and illegal structures are defacing the beauty of the city of warri and its environs, saying the Delta state government will not tolerate such nuisance across the state.

He therefore, urged members of the public to support the government to make the environment clean and safe for all Deltans, the statement adds.

However, the state taskforce had issued three days ultimatum to traders in Udu, Jigbale market to remove their shops under high tension and on top drainage system within the speculated time, so as to avoid government force on demolition of their properties.
