The Delta State Taskforce Chairman on Environment, Hon. Sylvester Oromoni has visited the Executive Chairmen of Ika South and Ika North-East Local Government Area of the State, in order to collaborate in the area of cleaner environment suitable for habitation for all Deltans.

During the meeting on Tuesday 18th May, 2021 at the Ika Council Secretariat Agbor, Oromoni said Deltans deserves hygienic and healthy environment to live, stressing that Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa led government is doing his best to make sure every nooks and crannies of the state is kept clean at all time.

Speaking in their various offices, the state taskforce Chairman, Oromoni said the visit became necessary because the rate of lawlessness by residents in Delta in terms of keeping their surrounding clean is becoming unbearable. Especially, the daily construction of illegal shops and shanties under high tension wire, on top public drainage, public walkways along major roads and cities across the state has becomes a menace that we must put to an end.

According to Oromoni, said: " l have come to partner with your office so as to keep Ika South and North-East clean, especially Agbor and its neighbouring communities. I want to appeal to you to set up a beautification team in your various Councils. So that when the state taskforce commence demolition of illegal structures, your team responsibility is to reclaim the areas where the illegal shanties have been removed. With this, we shall bring back the aesthetic beauty of the city of Agbor and its neighbouring communities, Oromoni stated."

In their responses, the two Council Chairmen, Hon. Barr. Victor Ebonka of Ika North-East and Hon. Sunny Tatabozugwu of Ika South LGA commended Hon. Oromoni for the good works he is doing in the state, especially the state Capital Territory Asaba, Warri and Uvwie for bringing back the beauty of the cities to limelight. They both pledged to work with the state taskforce in order to achieve the desired result of keeping Delta State clean.

However, the state Chairman also used the medium to visit the rented Agbor Zonal office of the taskforce where he addressed the workers. He charged them to put in their best in ensuring that our mandates are achieved. He admonished those that are not dedicated to the work and advised them to either take an exit route and sit up or he will show them the way out. Speaking on their behalf, the zonal coordinator promised a better service delivery but complained of non availability of operational vehicles which has hampered their operations. The Chairman promised them that he will do his best and has not relented in ensuring that they get an operational vehicle.

In another development, on the Chairman's way from lka North-East, he was forced  to stop at Abraka road following a serious traffic gridlock along the way. It was observed that most of the traders, especially the motorcycle riders parked their bikes on both sides of the road while other traders shaded their goods on the walkways, thereby causing serious traffic problems on that axis. While most of the traders were heaping refuse inside the drainage around the premises.

The Chairman, Oromoni and his team ensured that the drainage was cleared immediately and the heap of refuse tied in sacks and dumped inside the drainage were evacuated. He frowned at the attitude of the traders and warned that such should never happen again or else he will seal their shops around such area for one week.
