Local Council Elections Will Not Hold in January 2021, Says Gov Okowa

...Advises Aspirants To Slow Down But May Continue Strategic Consultations.

Warri____ Executive Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, has said that local government council elections will not take place in the month of January 2021, saying that aspirants may continue with political consultations ahead of formal flag off of full blown electioneering campaigns.

The governor made the disclosure at the thanksgiving reception ceremony organised in honour of the state party chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Okakuro Barrister Kingsley Esiso, in Sapele on Sunday.

He urged aspirants to avoid selling valuable properties to contest elections, adding that the party has a well planned methodology for free, fair and transparent primaries leading to emergence of credible and popular candidates for local government council elections in the state.

In the same vein, Gov Okowa appealed to party leaders and party chairmen at the various local governments to maintain well coordinated synergy with the state party chairman and his new Exco, so as to grow the party consistently and possibly take the party from its enviable position to greater heights before 2023 general elections.

He noted that Esiso has proven to be a result oriented party chairman and that his reelection for another term was largely connected to his strength of positive character, visionary leadership and for being a creative team leader with uncommon passion for progressive party politics.

"It is not yet time to print election posters because 'election time neva reach at all,' and make una nor sell una papa or mama house to contest election. My hand nor dey that one because we no go wan hear that kind of story this time around.

"You may continue to consult leaders and chieftains across board but do not print  posters at this time. We shall let you know through appropriate channels when to kick start electioneering campaigns.

"Let me state it clearly that local government council elections will not take place in the state next year January, which is why you must Slow down and reduce your spending 'so that your money nor go finish before the time reach.'

"We thank God for the reelection of our state party chairman, Barrister Kingsley Esiso, after leading us to a resounding victory in 2019 elections. He did pretty well with the former Exco and I am sure that he will do better this time around.

"I urge you and your new Exco to work with everybody in the state, devoid of partiality and undue favouritism as you did in the previous Exco so that together we shall make our party greater than this administration met it in 2015.

"I thank the women, youth and party faithfuls throughout the state for your loyalty, dedication and hard work over the years and together we shall take our great party to higher levels, going forward" Gov Okowa assured.
