Oromoni Wishes Gov. Okowa Happy New Year, Charges Deltans On Clean Environment

Warri______ The Chairman, Delta State Taskforce on Environment, Hon. Sylvester Oromoni has wished the governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Sen Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa Happy prosperous New Year, charging Deltans to celebrate the festive season in a serene and healthy environment.

In a statement released on Friday 1st January, 2021 at Warri, Oromoni charged members of the public, residential homes, especially business owners to always keep their environment clean as we enter another brown new year.

While advising all to desist from acts of indiscriminate dumping of refuse, Oromoni appealed to Deltans to patronize registered PSP operators so as to properly dispose their waste to government approved dump sites.

According to him, said: " Many people do not care about preserving the environment we live.

Festivities or holiday period does not have to be a burden on the environment. With little effort, we can reduce the environmental impact of the holiday season. We don't want anyone to spend the beginning of a new year in hospital due to environmental hazard. Therefore, we charged Deltans to maintain hygienic environment so as to be on the safe side."

However, Oromoni reiterated that the State Government’s zero tolerance for environmental abuse, especially blockage of drainage channels and trading on walkways would be strictly monitored in this new year.

He further warned street traders who are good in displaying wares on the road to desist, stressing that 2021 will be different.

He said with the anticipated increase in  vehicular movement in the city, his men must be at alert to ensure free flow of traffic on the roads.

The Taskforce Chairman made it clear that those caught channeling their septic tank to the drains will be apprehended and prosecuted

He also enjoins motorists plying the road to comply with the traffic directions so as to ensure a smooth vehicular movement.

Finally, he added that operatives of the state taskforce on Environment will  commence enforcement of the State laws on all offenders, including commercial vehicle operators who stop and pick passengers indiscriminately along high ways.
