Isoko Youth Assembly celebrates Tompolo at 50, describes him as the iroko of ljaw Nation


"Fellow Compatriots, I am so elated to God Almighty who has made this day a reality for our brother and illustrious son of the soil who is globally known as a Warlord to marked his golden jubilee birth anniversary.


At 50, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo who is generally known as Tompolo GOC, the iroko of Ijaw entity is seen as the greatest freedom fighter who added juices to the Niger-Delta struggle, whose abilities are incomparable to others in Nigeria, Africa and the global communities.


The living legendary's prowess, erudition, leadership as well as sagacity remains a reference point for all to emulate.


His agitations to emancipate the Niger-Delta region from enslavement was tied to the reality of the regional sufferings from administrative neglect, high unemployment, social deprivation, abject poverty, filthy, squalor and endemic conflicts.


The struggle was also at the instance of unjust treatment meted on the Niger-Deltans.


Invariably, the agitation to savage the regional populace which predates Nigeria's independence was as a result of the struggle for political and economical emacipation. This was the path our forerunners such as King Jaja of Opobo, King Nana of Itsekiri, Chief Harold Dappa Biriye, Major Jasper Isaac Adaka Boro, Ken Saro Wiwa etc took to liberate the oil-rich region from oppressive measures.
