His agitations to emancipate the Niger-Delta region from enslavement was tied to the reality of the regional sufferings from administrative neglect, high unemployment, social deprivation, abject poverty, filthy, squalor and endemic conflicts.

Invariably, the agitation to savage the regional populace which predates Nigeria's independence was as a result of the struggle for political and economical emacipation.
